There is indeed a big difference. It has to do with flavor.
Just in case your confused or not sure where I am, ‘ner fear I am alive. I am actually back from England, at the moment in Ohio. I have been back since the 6th of January. I have been back for nearly a month and feel alright. CCAD had re-indoctrinated me again, and yes it is feelin’ good. I remember what deadlines and late nights are. I have opted to keep Chemster going until I have a real portfolio site, who know this might just be home to it eventually... So, please, feel free to keep up with Chemster I will be adding my portfolio art, class thoughts, and interesting links to cool advertising. So it should be neat. Classes are going well, so much to do this semester. 18 credit hours and an honors project, whew this is going to be interesting. Not including the fact that 3 of my LAs are 400 level and one may as well be a grad class because of the deep airy reading. Yes, I mean deep and airy. So thank-you everyone for your support I appreciated it so much. You really have no idea. I am sad to be back, I do occasionally wake up and ask if I slept till three because it's dark outside when I get up. All in all I am glad to be back, but England is irreplaceable, I want to go back but this is how life works. Thanks again, Chema Remember, remember the Fifth of November, The Gunpowder Treason and Plot, I know of no reason Why the Gunpowder Treason Should ever be forgot. Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t'was his intent To blow up the King and Parli'ment. Three-score barrels of powder below To prove old England's overthrow; By God's providence he was catch'd With a dark lantern and burning match. Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring. Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King! And what should we do with him? Burn him! November the 5th, Guy Fawkes in England usually equals fireworks and bonfires. If you don't know what this means that's okay, frankly neither do I. I know what is talked about in V for Vendetta, a movie from 2005, but mostly just that guy Fawkes in 1605 tried to blow up parliament. I think this is the only celebration I know of that celebrates something that did not happen. Tonight and still going, as I see out my window, fireworks are being let off. My flatmates and I went to go see a showing nearby. It was fun but there was no bonfire there...but that's okay. Now for photos. Some of my photos are still uploading but hopefully by the time you do read this, when ever that may be, they will be all up. Pretty much I am going to link you to each one individually so you can decide where to go. there are a few that will be updated occasionally and I will be sure to let you know and provide a link. Also if there are any new sets I will of course link you. So if you want an image to be bigger just click on it. Guy Fawkes Day Blaitewaite House Newcastle upon Tyne Church Durham Cathedral Tynemouth Priory Holy Island and Bamburgh Castle Alnwick Classwork/Art Flying There you are. Chema edit:gah the size of the type won't stay put. grr Priority is my book, then travel.
It has been busy around here so this will be fairly brief. Classes just switched out so now I just have a branding project and my history class. Granted I still have to do a bit more on my animation and finish my book. For so little work there is too much to do. But last weekend I did go with the Christian Union to Blaitewaite House. That was good, I don't have too much to say on that, but my flatmate Debbie went with me. That was interesting, I am glad she got to go, she said she had fun. I say her during the seminars but I roamed around mostly. I met a shepherd and asked him about his sheep's wool and where I can purchase it. He said that I would have to go through the Registered Wool Commission or something that sounded like that. Apparently all the shepherd in England are required by law to do that... So I will need to look into that more. So tomorrow is the 5th of November! Bonfires and Fireworks! If you don't know what this means go watch V for Vendetta. It explains is fairly well in a odd way, great movie though. I will put up something in regard to that tomorrow. Now, regarding the pictures. I had to switch my photo hosting site because Flickr was frustrating, more then tribbles even. Suffice it to say I now am putting everything up on Photobucket. Sorry to say that means you will have to link to it from the blog. Each place I have been has it's own folder. Newcastle is the largest and you will just have to bear with it... they should be newest to oldest. Not all the photo's have been relocated yet, I will try and do that tomorrow when I am on campus. Last thing I want to say than you to everyone who has been supporting me so far! I really appreciate it. I know some of you just read the blog and some of you just stalk the blog but either way I am thrilled your getting cultures. Nya! I think this sums up so far my trip, no the video is not mine, but the churches here sing it and I think it is a beautiful hymn. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=627zCglxaMAweeblylink_new_window Chema Stranger things have happened...
Bit of advice; If you can't go insane while in another country find someone who can do it for you. I did. Their name is the Royal Shakespeare Company. More on that later though. So Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island. Interesting trips but to quote a fun movie “it's too fucking brief” sums up the trip. No really it was way to short. We only had an hour and a half to wonder around the Island and Lindisfarne Castle...yeah. But what I did see was nice enough. Loads of sheep and stones. But the neat thing about the island is you can only go to it when the tide is out and that is a neat sight to behold. It looks so desolate on the sand because the water is about a mile out but comes in that far. Creepy really. Also on the island they used to make limestone (?) and there are bit cauldrens that you can see. Bamburgh castle was alright not much to say Mostly though I have been taking a crap-ton of photos for my book, which today I learned my classmates think they need the backround removed from. ... But I have taken photos of my flatmates and classmates and a girl from church. So letsee: Amy the English, Janek, Verena, and Fabian the Germans, Paul the American, Linus the Swede, Michael the Mesopotamian, and Alex the Scottish. I still need one more model and I will be done with photos. The only other really big things were going with the Christain Union to Durham, which one of the sessions me and another guy skipped to go wander around outside. for shame I know. And then the play. As yes the play. On Thursday I saw two things, first Tim Brown from IDEO visited the school. Sweetness! And then As You Like It with the RSC. That was hilarious! I really don't think I can do this play justice it was so funny. I sat next to these school boys and we had to careen over the edge to see, but hey it was only £5. At one point one of the characters Jaques come out singing, well I might add, and was prompting the adudience, 1/3 was primary and high school students. So he is interacting with us and at one point he says “I can suck melancholy out of a song like a weasel sucks eggs.” I honestly nearly wet myself from laughing so hard. Just the way he said it...haha!! Later on at the beggining of the 2nd half two of the characters are on stage wait for the scence to start and interacting with the students. Well one of them, the farm keeper, pulls out a real rabbit and skins it. On stage. Of course the boy students were all excited by this and cheering or groaning...I couldn't decide. At one point the second character on the stage brings out these signs and they said “Meat is Murder.” Finally towards the end two of the charcters are moving through the crowd, one of them being a woman in a short skirt. Emphasis on short. Well to help her get past of the audience members this older gentleman totally cops a feel of her butt. Great play though. so funny! Chema No really, the box it sitting in my room, it was in
the courtyard and I wanted it. (Pictures are newest to old. The ones at the top are the most recent.) Stranger things have happened, but England so far it not one of them. I really feel like I am still in America. About the only strange thing I have seen is people who dress like me. Oh yes, they exist. You have seen the bright safety green shirt. It's like that only in every day glow color available. Then there are my flatmates. I have 5 German flatmates and one Swede, named Linus. Linus and I refer to the others as "The Germans." The first day was hard, I had jet lag. I honestly didn't think I would get it. I tried sleeping on the planes but that didn't happen. After going to and fro for a variety of events and inductions I finally got to sleep after 48 hours of no sleep. The next day was so much better. sleep=happy chema. I took a tour of the city with a campus leader and some other students. It was really great! I saw so many different things, it was mostly the market but it was huge. Eldon Square, Grey's Monument (Earl Grey tea anyone?), the first department store whose name is escaping me. Everything in Newcastle is within walking distance. 35 minutes will get you across town. Later in the day Linus and some of his Swede mates asked if I wanted to hang out around town that evening. It was a hoot. We wandered around the same shopping area as I had been in twice earlier that day. It was really actually quite fun because the Swedes wanted to talk about American culture a lot and practice their English. They talked about how American entertainment was the highlight of their own entertainment. We talked about movies, music and religion. One of the Swedes is going to Mexico next and wants to be in a gang because he likes like "kind of stuff, like Eminem, and short skirts...yeah?" Let me point out here that no other country, as far as I have see, wears as short of shirts as the girls at night in Newcastle. And I mean short. They asked me what I thought of the "lack" of attire. I replied I didn't know how they were not freezing. Religion was funny because they asked some unique questions. To be quite honest I was really surprised it came up was I was thrilled to talk to them. Yes, politics did come up, and yes I told them how I felt. Linus was the one who asked and was really cool about it. He was thrilled I kept talking to him after he asked the question. What? Apparently he has asked other Americans and they are really put off by him asking and don't speak to him again. Maybe it was because he was in Montana? He studied there in the Spring. The next day I adventured. I met an older couple who I had asked to take my picture. That turned into a tour of the Tyne river. Patrick and Valerie live in Gateshead which is on the other side of the river. They told me about all sorts of things you couldn't find in a travel brochure. it was really cool. The took my by the Millennium bridge, the Swing bridge, the Castle Keep, the old district, the Tyne bridge, the Baltic Art Center, and many other things. At one place near St. Mary's church, now a heritage center, Patrick told me about how the river caught fire and boulders were shot into the church. This was because Newcastle had two industries, coal and shipbuilding. So get any of those on fire and well...have fun. Also we saw the Millennium bridge do its thing. It tilts. I kid you not, it really does. I don't have a great picture of it yet, or video but I will. After that grand adventure the next day was also spectacular. Also have I mentioned there hasn't been any rain...at least not then. Well, I went to the beach with the Christian union. It was load of fun, we took the metro. I have not been to the beach for quite some time and it was great. It was sunny mostly. We had a barbecue and ate hamburgers. They call the bun on the burger a bap. Ya, a bap. What? Oh and hotdog buns are called finger rolls. other then those two I have know everything else, but those were weird. A bunch of the guys played rugby in the sand and frisbee. Later on frisbee became extreme. Like in the ice cold sea extreme. Did I join in? you betcha. This was of course after much debate as I did not have a change of clothes. So in I went Schrodinger shirt and all. It was COLD!!! it was fun though. After some went back to the campus, but I stayed with a few others and we went to a chip shop. The fish was friggin huge! I mean HUGE! It was so good though. After that one of the guys drove us back. Can we say opposite side of the road? Once back Linus again invited me to join him and the Swedes for the night out, although this time the a few of the Germans came along. None of the American clubs have anything of this. Glowsticks and Techno! Yes there are pictures but on another girls camera, which I was in charge of because I was the most sober. As in...sober. Seriously even though I can by it does not make it cheep. When I started back to the flat I say some of the CU people outside doing a "tea trolly" for all the inebriated students. I talked to them a bit they went home. The next day I met up with them and went to church. I met my first American, Missy. She is from Seattle and studying Medicine for a year. She leaves in December. The church invited me to go with them for a get together in Scotland! The rest of Sunday was spent wandering around at the beach again. I stayed until just before sunset. I wanted to stay at they light out until sunset but the pier was closed of before it. Monday was pretty...quiet. Minus the testing of the fire alarm. Oh and we have cleaning ladies...what?! Orly? Well then...haha. Other then that all I had was the Graphic Design induction where we get out timetables. Those are weird. I have five classes for six weeks then a different five for the last 6 weeks. Projects are due in December...huh. I also met my second American, also in the GA. Paul from Chicago. Finally today. It's still early here, 5:53pm, so more may happen. but so far I have had two classes, more like introductions. Animation and Web Design. Both should prove interesting even though I have done them before... other then that...I went and got fruit again. The first time I got 4 bananas, three apples, two large carrots for 79p ($1.25.) That was cool. BTW the box it for a project for Web Design, part of the second page on here as well. So there you go.
