Well Hello everyone and thanks for joining me on this AMAZING adventure,
I am so excited for my trip across the pond, the majority of you have no idea how much I have wanted to travel outside the country since I was little and we had an English girl stay with my family. After years of patience and annoyance it’s my turn, with God’s blessing I might add. “The things I do for Jesus,” from the History Boys really sums up what I had to do for this trip. I know that I could only do this with his blessing and mercy….a lot of mercy….a lot. So truly I thank him above everyone else.
So England, yeah. This little blog will by your main way other then email to contact me. If you think that its too private a conversation for sure email me at the CCAD address if its not then feel free to leave it on here. I just ask that you leave your name so I know whom the comment is from. Now most of you—if not all know I have a little spelling issue, I will do my best but there are quite a few things that slip through. I told a classmate once that Chemaese is a developing language. So feel free to let me know of errors grammatical and spelling errors and I will fix them. Okay there is my disclaimer.
Now we come to details,
Where: Northumbria University, School of Design, Newcastle, England.
When: August 24th 2009 until January 6th, 2010.
My goal is to leave end of August so I can travel around the UK (lots of cathedrals and moors) before my Orientation on September 12th and I intend to stay through Boxing Day. The semester starts September 21st and ends December 18th. I will continue studying Advertising and Graphic Design only it’s more focused on the graphic design this time. Still follow?
I will be living in the dorms as of the moment; I still would like to live in a similar situation to what I am now but I will go wherever God puts me. I was asked recently if I would come back with the cutest accent ever. I hope not, but I have the ability to pick up accents wherever I am—unintentionally mind you from friends, family…I mean wherever I am. I will be in PA for two months this summer and you can be 89% sure I will pick one up while I am there. So to answer that, I am going to try not to but…
(Please do read the next paragraph out loud with as much energy as you can, like I do, it reads so much better.)
My main reason for going is that advertising and design is not an American monopoly, dammit. (☺) There are great design companies in Europe and the UK, Saatchi & Saatchi UK for one. Plus there is such a wide market in every country that I cannot be a designer who sits at CCAD and says ‘Oh people in southern London are going to like A because we like A.’ Um, no. If we push so much that great campaigns come out of great research then I am going to England. No, it does not make me an expert but you know what, neither does sitting in a lab staring at a screen asking what do the people want.
There you are. If you have any question or suggestions of places you think I should go, other then Stonehenge and London (go away.), feel free to tell me. Again thanks guys for following on my adventure
through English design studies.
Chema
(Bah, why can't I adjust the leading and kerning....There was an orphan but I got it!!)
